What a brilliant informative read. Totally unexpected. Thought I was buying just another descriptive narrative on the history of the city. But, the depth of detail is fantastic. Commentry from people of the time was a great way to actually feel how the city constantly grew and fell. A must for all people who have visited this wonderful city and want know more. Highly reccomended.

Not just a history of place, but of peoples, sounds, smells, fashion, architecture, together with many other interesting details that have made Venice the city it has grown into today. A very good read.
