“A Very Good Book”
(Paperback)
by Alexander Barlow
I didn't know what to expect as Bernard Cornwell is well known for fiction books, but this book was an excellent and gripping read. I found myself in equal parts frustrated with incompetence, baffled by some of the goings on and enthused by the conclusion of Waterloo. Cornwell writes incredibly skilfully to make an historical fact into such an interesting read, with accounts in a healthy measure from a large variety of ranks in all three armies involved. Definitely worth a read for fans of Cornwell and fans of history alike.
“BRILLIANT”
(Paperback)
by Jane Cantor
As someone who struggled with History at school, and never really got into reading non-fiction, I can honestly say that Bernard Cornwell's books have taught me more history than I learned in seven years at grammar school. Apart from the Sharpe series, dealing with the Peninsular Wars, the Winter King trilogy and the Pagan Lord series have given me a real feel for the history of our country, and I am constantly checking for the next publication from this wonderful author. 'Waterloo', despite being non-fiction, has the same power to grab my attention and keep me reading well into the night. I have lost more sleep thanks to Bernard Cornwell than I care to admit - 3a.m. is not unusual!

“A very good read! ”
(Paperback)
by Lewis Walne
Waterloo is such a fascinating event in history to study and read about, and Mr Cornwell's account is gripping and exciting. Little facts are used well to give the reader an idea of what is was like for the people involved both before and during the battle. I thought it was a very good book especially considering the author usually writes fiction.
