Reading the book took me a while but finally here I am. Assuming you come from a basic knowledge of web2py framework I absolutely recommend you this great book. The book covers all common problems a web developer has to fight with during a web application development plus something more as useful tips and tricks to help you to improve your productivity. Web2py online book is a very great resource, you can find in it everything the framework offers, I consider this book the perfect integration to it, you are going to find a much more pratical approach to what you have seen in the online book. Coming from a basic knowledge of web2py you still know why web2py is so great, MVC architecture, automatic form generation with validation, database abstraction layer and access control. Many chapters of the book are going to let you know how to improve these functionalities and how they can be used in a real application, you're going to see how a skeleton of famous web applications could be done in web2py and how fast it could be. Some other chapters will explain you how to add functionalities as pdf generation (you're using python so obviously you can use every library python offers) to your application and how to set up a better, faster and nicer application using ajax effects. You'll be able to run web services in web2py and at the end you'll be able to set up a real production environment using different web servers. At the end of the book you have seen everything a web application needs, from database definition to application deploying. I'm sure you'll find in the book many problems you're going to fight with while you're developing your application. Many of the examples you'll see in the book are available online on web2pyslices site, grouping these examples by argument is great and it's exactly what the book does plus much more useful stuff! So here we are for my conclusions: web2py is a very great python-based framework, its built-in functionalities are able to manage most commons problems. This book shows you how these functionalities can be improved and how you can improve your application in performances, scalability and usability. While you're working having something to consult is great, problems developers are going to fight with are usually common problems, you'll probably find the best solution in the book or just get an idea on how to resolve them. Web2py online book is a great resource and I think this book is its perfect integration for a much more pratical approach to web2py. Abosolutely recommended!
