This book is phenomenal!! Whilst this book is obviously aimed at a younger age bracket than I am myself (possibly 10-15 year olds) I thoroughly enjoyed it! It has somevaluable lessons and viewpoints, which written from a child's point of view make them all the more poignant. Now, I don’t normally get emotional whilst reading books (I don't even laugh of comedy books!!!) but this book had me laughing, tearing up and at some points audibly gasping in shock!! I won't lie I skipped all the Bat-Pig commic pages because they didn't appeal to me but it's only one page at the end of every chapter! Overall, this is a brilliant book and would recommend that everyone, old or young should buy a copy and read it!!

I highly recommend Wink by Rob Harrell, it is a semi autobiographical book about teenager Ross, who is diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer above his eye. I love the cover its bright, eye catching and fun. The book takes you on a often comical journey through his treatment and navigating his way through normal teenage life while being known as the 'cancer kid' illustrated with comic strips about the heroic BatPig... You'll have to read the book to find out more. This book is more in the young adult genre, however I feel that at any age you will enjoy finding out about Ross and his journey. The cover caught my attention. The story is very interesting and it covers an important social anxiety issue, it took me two days to finish this book. Writer has done justice with words and it is written in simple but catchy way. Once i started reading it, i felt myself part of the book, i felt my self as a character in the story who wanted to help at so many critical stages of the main character. Cancer is, of course, the worst disease but the person who goes through this disease he has to face so many battles on every stage These battles are on many fronts like aesthetics, physical health, mental health, family, friends, loneliness, limitless hospital trips, medicines, infusions and many more. The writer has written all aspects in the best possible way. I wanted to read this book in summer but couldn't wait till summer so read it within two days.

This was such a great book to read. I thought that it dealt with the topic in a great way that will definitely appeal to younger people. The characters were very interesting and great to read about. I loved the friendships between the characters, the dynamic was great. The illustrations and comics made it easy to read and kind of softened up the topic. It also allowed you to better understand Ross, as these drawings are one of the ways he expresses himself. This was a very emotional book - there were moments that left you laughing, tearful and heart warmed. It is great when a book can do that. This book dealt with not just the physical affects, but also the emotional. I would definitely recommended reading this book, no matter your age.

What a great book! An honest, lighthearted and beautifully written insight into Ross' struggles with childhood cancer. From discovering new friends and the challenging relationships with old ones, to treatment stories, bullying and coping mechanisms; this book gives you a very real introduction to a very real experience for many, not only the author himself. Reminiscent of 'Wonder'; with a convincing childlike voice, and added comic strips for deeper understanding of Ross' thoughts, Wink draws you in and doesn't let go! I read it in half a day and will be encouraging my 8 year old to give it a shot too. I do feel like there should be a second book to give us a more substantial ending, as well as further development of several characters, but stand alone it's still a great read!
